SOCIAL IMPACT:

Promoting Disability Inclusion Through Accessibility and Education

Hello my name is Abigail Vogeler. I am a senior at Concordia College, Moorhead,  majoring in Theatre Arts and Biology, and minoring in Communication Studies. My plans are to attend Graduate  School to further my education, my goal is to someday move to Chicago to pursue my dreams of working in theatre. At Concordia, I am involved in a variety of activities such as music, theatre, first-year orientation, and various student groups, one of which is “Sonder," a student organization dedicated to disability and mental health advocacy.

I am the founder Sonder established in the fall of 2021, and I am the current president. The word Sonder means, “the realization that every passerby is living a life as complex as your own.” This relates to the idea that you really don’t know what's going on in someone's life just from what you see on the outside. As an autistic and deaf person with hearing aids myself, I understands how isolating it can feel to constantly experience accessibility barriers and ableism due to stigmas surrounding disabilities. My social impact initiative, "Disability Inclusion," strives to promote accessibility and acceptance towards people with disabilities.

I decided to sing musical theatre for my talent because I enjoy using performance to tell stories. I have been been singing and dancing since I was in kindergarten. As a high schooler I discovered a love for theatre.  At Concordia College I have been involved in eight theatre productions. I am also currently working towards becoming  fluent in American Sign Language (ASL). My dream is to someday create a
theatre company for the deaf.

I enjoy living inMoorhead and attending Concordia College, I wish my family in Buffalo, MN, were closer. l feel incredibly lucky and blessed to have family and friends who always encourage me to reach for the moon.
